ROSE NAMES THE PROTAGONIST OF REBECCA BY DAPHNE DU MAURIER

You might think the main character of Rebecca would be named Rebecca, but she isn’t. We never learn her name.

I am about to fix that. I hereby name her Summer.

This is the perfect name for her. It explains why she doesn’t reveal her name to the reader, because it is somewhat ridiculous (you won’t know why unless you’ve read the book or watched the movie). Now we have a reason for her to be coy about her name.

This book is utterly brilliant in all other respects.
